Baker Tilly A&C Contributes to the Development of a Sustainability Reporting Handbook for SMEs in Vietnam

Posted Date - 13/04/2026

On 30 March 2026, as part of an initiative to promote sustainable development among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), ACCA, in collaboration with Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (VINASME), organized a program titled “Developing a Practical Sustainability Reporting Handbook for SMEs.” At this event, representing Baker Tilly A&C, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh – CEO of Baker Tilly A&C Consulting – actively contributed professional insights, sharing practical perspectives drawn from advisory, audit, and ESG implementation experiences within Vietnamese enterprises.

The event brought together leading ESG experts, representatives from financial institutions, businesses, and regulatory bodies. During the program, speakers emphasized that as transparency, governance, and sustainability standards increasingly become global imperatives, the development of a dedicated practical guidance handbook for SMEs is both timely and essential. The handbook is expected to serve as a valuable tool, enabling businesses to progressively adopt, implement, and enhance the quality of their sustainability reporting in an effective manner.

Leveraging extensive experience in supporting businesses through transformation and the adoption of international standards, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh shared practical approaches to ESG tailored to the Vietnamese context, particularly for SMEs. He highlighted that sustainability reporting frameworks should be simple, practical, and actionable, while still maintaining alignment with international standards such as IFRS S1 and IFRS S2.

Experts at the event also acknowledged that one of the key challenges currently faced by businesses is the complexity and diversity of international standards, which can create barriers to adoption. Therefore, the handbook is expected to function as a “filter,” helping enterprises identify and apply the most relevant core elements in a way that aligns with their resources and practical needs.

Beyond a single technical workshop, the program marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration among organizations to build a sustainable development ecosystem for SMEs in Vietnam. Through this initiative, businesses are expected to strengthen governance capabilities, enhance transparency, and gradually integrate more deeply into global supply chains.

Baker Tilly A&C’s active participation in both national and international initiatives continues to reaffirm its role as a trusted partner supporting Vietnamese enterprises on their sustainability journey, while contributing to the advancement of governance capacity and the alignment with global best practices.
